While it is true that your body will use more fat for fuel during fasted cardio, research suggests that the overall difference in weight loss between exercising on an empty stomach and after eating is minimal.
One study, published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, found that obese women who did fasted cardio lost no more weight than women who ate a carbohydrate-rich breakfast before their workouts.
Another study, published in the British Journal of Nutrition, found that men who did fasted cardio lost slightly more fat than men who ate breakfast before their workouts, but the difference was not statistically significant.
So, while exercising on an empty stomach may have some slight benefits for fat burning, the overall difference in weight loss is likely to be negligible.
If you're considering exercising on an empty stomach, it's important to listen to your body and make sure you don't feel lightheaded or dizzy. If you're feeling lightheaded, stop exercising and eat something.
Ultimately, the best time to exercise is whenever you feel most energized and able to perform at your best.
