Being overweight or struggling with obesity is never the easiest of life's predicaments. Excess weight gives birth to many health complications such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart conditions, strokes, etc. When obesity runs in the genes, it brings with it many other life hampering ailments. The sooner you set about tackling your weight problem the better chance you have of enjoying your life to the fullest.
Loosing weight is not as difficult as it may seem on the onset. No matter how over weight you are you can expect to see visible reduction in your weight almost as soon as you start on a healthy weight loss plan. Here are the guidelines to achieve successful weight loss.
1. Consult your physician: before you begin a weight loss program, which will inevitably require diet changes and some sort of exercise, consult your physician and ask for the best sources of information. Discuss your weight loss goals with your physician and make sure they are both realistic and healthy.
2. Calculate Extra Weight: weight your self. Now subtract from this the weight that is normal for a person of your age, gender and height. This difference is your excess weight and your focus should be on loosing this.
3. Gradual cut: calculate the calories you eat on a normal day. Now calculate the calories that are considered normal and healthy for a person of your age, gender and height. DO NOT make a drastic caloric cut in your diet. This will just tell your body it's about to be starved and it will speed up the fat storing process. Gradually decrease the caloric count of your daily diet. Start with 500 calories a week and then approach your calorie goal.
4. Low Carbs: try a low carb diet. It should help reduce the fat build up of your body as well as lower insulin levels. If most of your fat is gathered around your waist, this diet will probably help you the most.
5. Water: drinking about 8 glasses of water daily is essential for a healthy adult. But when you're trying to loose weight, take an additional 8 ounces of water for every extra pound that you're trying to loose. Staying well hydrated will immediately cause weight loss as it will stop the water retention your body does as a result of not receiving a plentiful supply of water.
6. Avoid Soft Drinks: avoid soft drinks as they cause dehydration and are loaded with calories. They also contained acidified water that raises the acidity of the blood, which isn't good for the heart.
7. Exercise: get some regular sweat making activity into your daily life. Start off with brisk walking and set a small goal like walking half a mile, one mile, or walking for half an hour without loosing breath. You can gradually add to this workout routine. Exercise speeds up your metabolism and helps you burn fat faster.
8. Keep a Journal: one of the best things that you can do for yourself is to keep a journal of your daily progress. What you ate, what you chose not to eat, what exercise you did, your total caloric intake, how you felt, etc. This will help you keep record of your progress; it will be a source of motivation and a reason to congratulate yourself as you make progress.
