These days, most of the people are placing importance on the issue of staying physically healthy and maintaining the healthy body weight. This effort can be seen by the number of people who are joining sports clubs or gyms, going on strict diets, and spending on private health insurance to maintain a healthy body weight.

In fact one of the biggest areas of concern in this part for women is keeping a healthy shape and body weight, this is because it not only affects their overall level of physical health, but it is also accepted as playing an important role in mental and emotional well being, self insight and perception as well.

Most of the people know that being both obese or over weight and under weight are not good for health, but the fact is that, health is about far more than just body weight. Several factors such as the family medical history or the genetic predispositions of a person or how much he drinks or smokes, what type of food the person eats and how much exercise he gets all have a major impact on health. There really in true sense is no ideal weight but it varies man to man and therefore that a person should be seeking on purely health grounds.

Using body weight as a measuring unit of health therefore is not particularly useful. Obviously there are levels that will definitely be too high or too low, but within these limits, there is a huge range of healthy weights that people can fall into. Much of the worries that people feel regarding their body weight and healthy weight loss exercises are more to do with glamorous advertisements and media images than on what is considered healthy and the laymen are surrounded by glamorous images and conceptions of beauty that distort our idea of what a healthy body should look like.

Many media images actually show people who are sometimes considerably underweight and do not represent a healthy standard or good example to measure us against.

Now if a person is genuinely concerned about his health, then weight loss should not be the ultimate goal of all fitness efforts. He should eat healthy food, try to cut down on cigarette and alcohol consumption; should get a reasonable amount of exercise, and should properly take care of himself. A person does never need scientific advice and a professionally designed diet and exercise schedule for effective weight loss or keeping healthy body weight. More likely what he need is common sense simple changes like snacking on fruits sometimes, walking to work, and going for the medical check ups when ever recommended.

Medical check ups are recommended at varying intervals depending on the age and health circumstances of a person but it is wise to keep up to date with these medical checkups and not to fall into the trap of constantly procrastinating. If the cost of medical visits and check ups are a serious issue that causes one to skip visits, then maybe he should consider a health insurance plan that will cover such checkups and just charge him an affordable monthly amount.
