It has been proven through researches and studies that starvation is not the best mode for losing weight and skipping meals will not help you in weight loss either. Most people are familiar with the term anorexia, which is used for all people who try to look skinny or lose weight by not eating. This form of weight loss technique is an obsessive eating disorder where the patient starts to believe that by not eating they can look thinner and lose weight and hence they go on a no food diet and literally starve themselves for days at a stretch.
The result of this disorder can actually be fatal and it can lead to various kinds of problems and has also lead to deaths in many cases. Basically starving and not eating is just the beginning of the problem as this obsession starts to pick on from here. More than often the person does not realize that he or she is suffering from a compulsive eating disorder. Various kinds of myths exist about skipping meals and the biggest myth about starvation is that it helps you to lose weight.
But unfortunately, the truth is just the opposite as starving can actually make you put on weight instead of losing weight. Most people try and occasionally starve their bodies and this result in the reverse of weigh loss for them and there are two ways of the same happening. In the first process people skip meals or starve themselves unconsciously and since most of them are busy with work or other preoccupations, they prefer not to eat or forget about it. Another reason for not eating is doing the same on purpose and for losing weight.
Basically the idea of not eating is motivated to deprive the body of food and try to speed up the process of weight loss. In the period when the body goes into the starvation mode, it unconsciously begins a defense mechanism and thus instead of burning more calories, the body tries to intake the maximum number of calories it can from the food and drink, which you consume. Also the body tries to save or deposit these calories in the form of fats in lean tissues and muscles for later usage.
Due to the result of the fat storage there is also lowering of the metabolic rate and the body needs fewer calories to keep ticking. In this process weight loss becomes much slower and instead of shifting the pounds from the body for weight loss, you are depositing more fats in to your system. Due to the increased intake of calories, once the process of skipping meals is over, the body deposits more and more fat. During the initial starvation period you may lose some weight but later on you tend to gain back more than what you had lost.
The increased calorie intake leads to short term weight loss but in the long run the body slows it metabolic rate further and the body starts to gain weight instead of losing weight.
