Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg and Albert Einstein are all famous for simplifying their wardrobes and wearing the same outfits every day.
Though I’m not a famous CEO or mathematician, I decided to simplify my diet just like these people simplified their wardrobes. The practice of limiting my meal choices has many benefits. Here are five reasons why you should consider doing the same:
1. I save my willpower for more important matters.
Unfortunately willpower is a limited resource. How many times do you think you could say no to a chocolate chip cookie in a day? Willpower is like a muscle that gets tired the more you use it. To keep it strong, you have to find ways to limit its use.
By having a few go-to meals that I eat on a consistent basis, I don’t have to think about my meals. This strategy helps me conserve my willpower for more important decisions — and it could help you turn down any junk food offers throughout the day.
2. My meals are optimized for health.
I crafted highly nutritious meals for myself that I eat every day. Here’s what my daily diet looks like:
By eating the same nutrient-dense meals on a regular basis, I ensure that my body is getting the nutrition it needs to be healthy and lean. Once you know what it feels like to get consistent, nutritious food it will become very easy to stick with those meals because you’ll know what to eat to feel good, instead of eating just because it tastes good.
3. I am never stressed about food.
I don’t worry about what I’m going to eat next and whether or not I’m getting enough nutrients. Being overly stressed about your food choices can lead you down some very unhealthy paths. When we’re stressed we crave comfort food and could wind up snacking on a bag of chips while searching for a healthy option to cook. For a lot of people worrying about their diets can become very stressful when it doesn’t have to be. By simplifying your diet you take the worry out of the equation.
4. I save time and money.
With fewer ingredients and a shorter grocery list, you will find yourself saving more money and spending a lot less time in the grocery store.
5. My healthy eating habits give me peace of mind.
Simplifying my diet was like putting my health on autopilot. When eating healthy becomes something you just do instead something you have to constantly think about, you develop peace of mind. When you have peace of mind over one of the most important aspects of overall health, you drastically reduce your stress.
Now, you’re probably thinking “won’t I get tired of eating the same meals every day?” Well I’ve been eating these same meals very regularly for about a year now and I have yet to get bored of them. I do however change up the flavor of my meals by getting different types of cheese, adding different seasonings, spices and even salsa, or changing up the vegetables that I use. You also don’t need to be too strict about it. If you feel like you’re getting tired of the same meal then take a break for a couple of days.
Once you start simplifying your diet, you’ll find it’s hard to stop. When eating incredibly healthy day in and day out becomes effortless and you notice how great it makes you feel, you start to realize that simplifying your diet is the easiest way to vibrant health.
