What I Eat To Stay Fit: A Nutritionist Explains It All

What I Eat To Stay Fit: A Nutritionist Explains It All Hero Image

Since my last article about how I lost 40 pounds and kept it off, I've received many questions about exactly what I eat to maintain my figure.

My diet has been changing and evolving during the last four to five years, but it's remained plant-based, and pretty low in fat, most of the time.

Instead of talking vaguely about what I eat, I’ve decided to share my food diary listing exactly what I ate yesterday (which was pretty much a typical day).

So here it is: everything this nutritionist ate yesterday.

Upon waking:

Four cups of water with freshly squeezed lemon. Then, another 12 cups during the day, between meals.

Before my morning workout:

2 cups of green juice (made from kale, celery, cucumber, red cabbage, beetroot, cilantro or coriander, ginger, lime).

Post-workout breakfast:

A smoothie made from:

  • 3 bananas
  • 1 mango
  • 1 bunch of kale
  • 1 tsp. spirulina
  • 1 tsp. organic wheatgrass powder
  • 1 cup frozen blackberries
  • splash of water

Lunch:

Salad made of lettuce, cherry tomatoes, avocado, cucumbers, carrot, sesame seeds, with raw mango “mayonnaise” dressing.

Afternoon snack:

Homemade hummus with carrot sticks.

Dinner:

Coconut water (made from two young coconuts), veggie stir fry with tofu and brown rice (I was at a restaurant).

Eating a low-fat plant-based diet makes me feel energized and healthy. Since I started eating this way, I've lost weight and healed many health problems. On top of that, my skin is clear and soft now, after being very clogged and inflamed when I ate meat and dairy.

Although having no animal products in my diet might sound like a big restriction to some people, it’s actually a lot easier than you might think. Once you learn how to make delicious whole plant-based meals, find the right alternatives to animal products, and pick up some tricks on how to eat out healthily, it becomes second-nature.

If deep down inside you feel like you should have more energy, feel more vibrant and feel healthier, or if you want to get rid of excess pounds, or clear up your skin, then I’d really recommend you try a plant-based diet.

It could change your life!
