Staying properly hydrated is an important part of staying healthy. Your organs, tissues and brain rely on water intake. But H2O can be a key player in slimming you down and keeping weight off for good.
A study had found that drinking 500ml of water – around a pint – before eating helped obese adults lose weight. Over 12 weeks, the study participants changed nothing about their lifestyle other than upping their water intake and cutting out sugary juices and sodas. Drinking a pint of water before every meal made the participants feel more full, and they were less inclined to overeat. As a result, the participants lost an average of 10 pounds just by hydrating.
“When combined with brief instructions on how to increase your amount of physical activity and on a healthy diet, this seems to help people to achieve some extra weight loss – at a moderate and healthy rate. It’s something that doesn’t take much work to integrate into our busy everyday lives.” explains Dr Helen Parretti, of the University of Birmingham.
