The 4 Breakfast Mistakes That Are Keeping You From Losing Weight

Are you feeling like your weight loss goals are far from being reached. What gives? Your problem could be breakfast. Here are four mistakes you may be making and how to fix them.

The mistake: you skip it to save calories

This can actually be a fat trap. Researchers at Imperial College London discovered that when people went without a morning bite, their brain reward centers lit up when they were shown images of high-calorie foods. So if you skip breakfast, you could be causing your junk food cravings to kick in.

The makeover: Make eating breakfast a priority. And if you’re feeling like time is hindering that, grab a healthy energy bar to go.

The mistake: you turn to high-carb foods for energy

While a blueberry muffin might seem like an OK choice, most are packed with more added sugar than is recommended for your entire daily intake. The American Heart Association says women should ingest no more than 24 grams of added sugar daily. A blueberry muffin comes in at 44 alone.

The makeover: If a jolt of sugary goodness in the morning is your thing, try chopping up one tasting square of dark chocolate and mixing it into your oatmeal. Fruit is a great option as well. Try blending up a smoothie.

The mistake: you’re eating healthy but missing produce

According to a report from Produce for Better Health Foundation, only 8 percent of Americans actually consume the recommended amount of fruit each day (2 cups, for a moderately active woman) and just 6 percent eat enough veggies (3 cups). Eggs for breakfast? Great, but incorporate your fruits and veggies, too.

The makeover: Grabbing a piece of fruit to go, or adding vegetables to an omelet will ensure you get at least a serving.

The mistake: your breakfast is too skimpy

Majority of women skimp out on breakfast. Researchers in Israel discovered that overweight women who consumed more calories at breakfast and fewer at dinner lost more weight.

The makeover: Incorporate lean protein, healthy fat and good carbs at breakfast time.
