4 Healthy Weight Loss Snacks That Aren’t Fruits or Vegetables

Snacking can either work for you or against you. It’s 3pm, and work has taken all of your energy out of you. Your stomach begins to grumble as you contemplate that salty, savory bag of chips in your desk drawer. You know the empty calories aren’t worth it, and won’t provide you the fuel you need to power through the next few hours, but your stomach is being impatient. What do you do?

If you’re trying to lose weight, this problem can really weigh on you. You know the benefits of chomping on fruits and vegetables are your best bet for a quick snack, but sometimes biting off a piece of celery just isn’t going to cut it. However, there are plenty of other options that can fill you up without weighing you down.

1. In-shell pistachios

Nuts are an incredible snack, as they’re packed with protein and healthy fats, which help people to stay full for longer. Pistachios are lower in calories than almonds, so if you’re getting sick of the latter, then it’s a good time to switch.

2. Avocado with salsa

Yes, it’s true that avocado is a fruit, but given its popularity long before the health world began calling it a superfood, it’s safe to say it should stay on this list. It’s also been found to leave you feeling full for up to five hours. And though they are high in fat, they’re not going to kill your calorie intake, as they have the same number as a handful of nuts.

3. Low-fat cottage cheese with cinnamon

This is the type of snack that will work wonders to keep you focused.  A 160-calorie cup of low-fat cottage cheese has a whopping 28 grams of protein, so you won’t have to waste your time focusing on your hunger.

4. Olives

If you know you’re going to eat a meal soon but just can’t keep your mind off of food in the time being, grab some olives. They offer a rich, buttery texture, briny flavor and a little bit of fat. If you eat five of them, you’re only consuming 20 calories!

Are you a fan of any of these snacks?
