Our swimsuit season has most definitely passed, but that doesn’t mean your desire to look smashing has gone anywhere. The holidays often bring with them one or two events where you not only want to look good, you want to look amazing. Although we advocate a healthy, long-term, balanced approach to weight loss, we know that isn’t always possible.
Occasionally, time just passes by you and before you know it, you are weeks away and have failed to meet your goals. Elite Daily has done us all a massive favour and gone to fitness experts, Hallie Rich and Ilyse Schapiro, for tips to help you out when you are short on time.
You only have weeks to look your best for your cousin’s wedding. You’ve got the perfect dress picked out but you’d still like to drop a few pounds. Rich and Schapiro say this is totally doable and they recommend you start with your snacks. Put down the chips and pretzels and opt for something healthier like carrots, celery, peppers or cucumber. They also suggest taking a pass on processed foods at least a few days a week. They explain, “they’re not natural and your body often doesn’t know how to digest them. They also tend to have tons of sugar and/or fat, which won’t do your figure any favors. Be careful with salads and avoid too many toppings (cheese, bacon, nuts), starchy veggies (corn and peas) and don’t drown it in dressing.”
You should also try to eat your breakfast within an hour to 90 minutes of waking up. Doing so will help to stabilize your blood sugar and control your appetite. Another thing to try is mixing up your workouts. Go for a run one day and maybe do weights the next. Maximize your efforts.
Do you have a special event to go to that requires you to get into a killer outfit? Click To TweetSleep is also pretty important. Rich and Schapiro say, “the more restful you are night, the more likely you are to make better choices during the day and make smarter choices when it comes to your health and eating habits. Not getting enough sleep can actually stimulate appetite. Lack of sleep affects appetite hormones in your body and can lead to cravings for high-fat, high-carbohydrate foods.”
Because many of us have a tendency to procrastinate, this scenario is all too common. While you won’t be able to lose too many pounds, you can make adjustments that will show results almost right away.
Rich and Schapiro recommend avoiding salt, drinking lots and lots (and lots) of water and increasing your fiber intake. They also say it is best to avoid artificial sweeteners, gum and sugar-free candies as for they can all lead to gassiness. Saying no to restaurants, take-out, soda and alcohol is also essential.
One important thing to remember is that fitting into that perfect outfit is not a good reason to compromise your health. Ever. Rich and Schapiro warn that you should never consume less than 1,200 calories a day. While these tips can help in the short-term, never skip meals in the name of weight loss.
