Weight Loss Myths Busted! 6 Things You Need To Stop Believing Now!

We all have different reasons why we want to lose weight. Maybe you don’t feel yourself, maybe you have a big event coming up and want to look your best. No matter the reason, certain diet myths may be standing in your way. It is time to put a stop to it once and for all! Bust these myths and reach your goal!

Myth: Everyone loses weight at the same rate

The Truth: Everyone is different. If you start out with a lot of weight to lose, you will lose it quickly at first. But the inverse is true as well. If you only have a small amount to lose, it will come off slowly. Don’t compare your progress to anyone else.

Myth: Don’t eat after 7 p.m.

The Truth: It doesn’t matter what time you eat as long as you don’t over do it on the calories. The real issue is that the things we reach for at night are often less than healthy and nutritious. Stick to light snacks like fruits, veggies or popcorn.

Myth: Skipping meals helps you lose weight

The Truth: If weight loss is truly your goal, skipping meals is not good. It might seem like a genius solution at lunch time, but it will come back to get you. Skipping a meal will only leave you feeling sluggish and hungry. It can also lead to you eating more food than you normally would at your next meal!

Myth: Six small meals are better than three big ones

The Truth: While this idea has dominated thinking for some time, it isn’t necessarily accurate. Studies have found that there is no real difference in weight loss between people eating 6 meals and those spreading the same number of calories over 3 meals. The important factor is keeping your daily caloric intake in check. Do what works for you within that limit.

Myth: All fat is bad fat

The Truth: This myth needs to just die already! Yes, there are some fats that are best to avoid but others are absolutely essential. Take olive oil, for example. Olive oil is a monounsaturated fat and has been shown to lower blood pressure and cholesterol while reducing your risk for heart disease and stroke. How can that be bad?

Myth: Cardio is the only way to shed pounds

The Truth: You do know that strength training won’t instantly turn you into a body builder, right? In fact, lifting weights will help you build muscle which, in turn, will help you burn fat. Cardio is certainly important but adding a few sessions a week with some heavy weights will help, not hinder, your efforts.

Are you guilty of buying into these myths? What weight loss myths do you wish would disappear?
