National Obesity Week started yesterday (Monday 17th Jan 2011), and this year it is actually going to run until Sunday 30th January.
Various councils have organised events around the UK to help raise awareness about the dangers of obesity and look at ways to help people to lose weight and get fit.
The www.nationalobesityforum.org.uk provides details of all the main events. One of the most exciting ones is happening on Wednesday 19th when there is going to be a National School Sport Dance.
“On Wednesday the 19th January 2011 all schools, nurseries, leisure centres, old people’s homes, colleges, universities and sports clubs are invited to take part in ‘The National School Sport Dance’.
The 19th January is 555 days until the start of the 2012 London Olympics = 555 = SSS = Support School Sport! At 11.40am (i.e. 20to12) on that day schools who wish to ‘Support School Sport’ will perform the dance either in classrooms, their school hall, the yard or at a central venue with other schools as a show of mass participation.
If you would like to take part or need further information of the ‘National School Sport Dance’ please register here.”
