It is hard to believe that 50% of us is on a diet at any one time somewhere in the world. Yet the facts are that two out of every three people are overweight or obese and this situation continues to grow to where it is now called an obesity epidemic.
So the dieting efforts of all of those people are clearly not working. In fact it is estimated that 95% of all 'diets' fail. It makes you wonder why people keep on doing what doesn't work. It is highly unlikely that we would purchase a product or service that didn't work 95% of the time yet people continue to purchase diet plans.
Could it be because they do not understand why they really have become overweight? Or are they in denial about the way they are leading their life? You would have to be living under a rock not to know that the lack of vigorous activity in our modern day lives is to blame for not only the massive overweight problem but also our chronic health problems that affect two out of every three people on this planet.
Muscle tissue loss caused by our own lack of activity is why we are having these problems in epidemic numbers. We each lose between 3-6 pounds of muscle tissue starting in our mid 20's and this continues throughout our adult life. This reduces our body's engine capacity - our metabolic rate - so we no longer can burn up the food we eat for fuel and energy. So it gets piled into storage depots which spill out from our bodies and put us at risk of chronic disease.
As we have removed everything that even resembles 'work' from our modern lifestyles to combat this health problem we have to put that 'work' back into our lives in the form of proper muscle building and maintaining exercise. This is not an option but a necessity if we wish to live long enough to become grandparents.
This exercise program that contains mostly strength training exercise will be the backbone of your weight loss campaign. If set up properly by a fitness professional this program will give your metabolic engine a good tune up so it can get to work for you and burn up those unwanted calories hanging over your belt. This will happen even when you are resting or sleeping when your metabolism is working properly again.
Take note ?any long, slow, steady state activity such as walking, jogging or cycling will not boost your metabolism enough to help you to lose weight. These activities are simply too low an intensity to tone and build muscle tissue which is what you need to lose weight. Spend your time on things that actually work and don't waste it on things that don't work. Your cardio activity should be made up of a couple of interval training sessions each week for the ultimate fat burning activity.
You could spend the time you save on unproductive activity on preparing your meals each evening so wherever you go the next day you have your food with you and won't be tempted to eat something that won't help you reach your fitness and weight loss goals.
Prepare 4-6 small meals with at least 20 grams of protein as the central focus of each meal. Add lots of raw or cooked vegetables and stay away from anything that is processed and comes in a pretty box or packet. Eat natural, whole foods and cook them from scratch if you are serious about losing that weight.
This simple solution to your excess weight problem is something you will be working on for the rest of your life. Welcome to your new job! But soon it will not be any harder or more difficult that what you are already doing. Just by seeing light at the end of the tunnel is much better than suffering the constant stress and guilt of being overweight.
Try this simple solution and see for yourself, you will be pleased you did.
