If you want some sensible tips for losing weight I'm going to give you some sound ideas that will work for you regarding weight loss. If you want to lose weight and maintain a healthy relationship with food, and if you are really serious about losing your excess pounds permanently, then please read this to the end. It will take you two or three minutes but it will start to change your life forever, and for the better! That's my personal promise to you.
Let抯 start with attitude. Ask yourself this question: 'What should my attitude be to losing weight?'
To begin with make your ultimate goal of reducing your weight a long-term goal and not a short-term goal. Your attitude is critical to getting the results you want. Do this simple exercise: think about what your motivation is for wanting to lose the weight and, if you start with the right mindset, I promise you will succeed.
My advice is simple. Make your attitude one of, 'I will lose weight, and I will keep the weight I lose off my body forever.' You should let this be your mantra: 'I want to lose weight because I want to be healthy. I want to lose weight because I want to look and feel great. I want to lose weight because it matters so much more to me than eating all that unhealthy food.'
Lots of people say, 'I really must go on a diet.' Frankly, if this is your attitude then losing your excess pounds permanently will not work for you, or for anybody that takes this fuddy-duddy approach. It抯 a well known fact that diets just don抰 work. Diets make you fat. In fact diets make you even fatter. It抯 a proven scientific fact that going on a diet for a few weeks or months will lead you, eventually, back to putting on even more weight that you started with. You know this is true so don抰 kid yourself otherwise. Turn your attitude into one of wanting long-term success based on lifestyle change, not just cutting out unhealthy food for a few days. You know the definition of madness; 'Continually doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.' If you continue what you抮e doing now, or going back to what you抮e doing now, it will lead you back to where you are now. Madness! Please don抰 do it!
However, always bear this in mind: eating unhealthy food is neither a sin nor a problem. Eating fatty, creamy high-density foods loaded with calories occasionally won抰 do any long-term damage to your body if you do it, say, once a month or even once a week. That抯 okay. If you keep eating unhealthy food it will be a real problem if you keep doing it every day of your life, several times a day!
Fast food. Let me say just a few words about fast food. Fast food outlets really have absolutely no interest in either your health or your long-term welfare, or your weight problem. All they are interested in is making mammoth profits from the money you spend with them. They love fat people because it keeps them in business. That抯 why their food is designed to make you want more of it.
In later articles I will talk about what constitutes healthy and unhealthy food; you probably know enough about this already, so make sure you give the types of food you consume some serous thought. I don抰 have time to nag you. Go nag yourself into not eating the unhealthy food too often! (In a nice way of course!)
The equation for losing weight permanently is simple: eat less + exercising more = permanent weight loss. Exercising more does not mean you have to spend a fortune on a gym membership. It is now recognized that a really good form of exercise is simply keeping your body moving as much as you can. It certainly helps you if you spend a lot of your time sitting at a computer, or watching television, or reading a newspaper. Walking is a superb way of getting yourself moving. If you can manage around thirty or so minutes a day you will see the benefits within a few days. Walk briskly for most of it, and walk as fast as you can for around five or ten minutes, to get your heart racing will do you the power of good. Being a little breathless is good, but not to the point where you抮e going to feint please! Get into a routine to do this regularly. It will pay dividends over the long-term if you develop this excellent habit.
Eating less whilst you抮e getting your weight under control is not about cutting out ALL foods you like. But it does mean, as I said earlier, not eating them to excess. Fat people (and I used to be one of them, so I speak from personal experience!) have a tendency to eat more food than they need, and the wrong types of food, too much of the time. Addressing this problem will get you moving in a downward direction. Your scales will show you how great you feel, and your mirror will start to show you great you look!
Finally, make sure you learn about how to burn the fat on your body so it doesn抰 slow down your metabolism. My tips for losing weight always finish up with ensuring that you realize that shedding the pounds will mean you have to eat less food to reach your ideal weight! Horrible thought it may be, but it抯 true. But there are tried and tested ways to speed up your metabolic rate so you can eat more and not feel you've been deprived.
My tips for losing weight will teach you how to be in control of what you eat, and not have what you eat in control of you!
