The reason most of us feel the need to take off a few pounds has to do with the sedentary nature of our life. Most gym memberships are paid for by people who work at a desk all day; not by people outside working in construction or building industries. You have to think that your time in the gym might be better spent if you were outside playing with kids or walking a dog; but many of us don抰 have kids or dogs to play with it. Should this force us into the cold confines of a sweaty gym? Nope; instead you can hit two birds with one stone. Here are three ways to volunteer and do good things for the world, while doing good things for your waist line.
First, volunteer to walk other people抯 pets. Many dog owners feel the chore of walking their dogs, and of course, every dog wants to spend more time outdoors. Your friends and neighbors will love the opportunity for their pups to get extra time walking and running, and you will get the benefit of having a great walking buddy. Perhaps you even know a dog owner who has a hard time walking their pets; walking their dogs is a double benefit. You can really help them out and you can avoid time on the treadmill. It抯 a double win.
Second, another great way to volunteer is to volunteer to work with kids. After school and boys and girls clubs always need volunteers, and nothing can keep you moving as much as playing tag with a bunch of 7 year olds. The energy of kids can give you an amazing cardio-vascular workout without needing to take one step on the treadmill.
Finally, volunteering to help the elderly can be an excellent way to greatly improve someone抯 life. Often the elderly have difficulty running errands and doing chores around their houses. Helping them grocery shop, move furniture, doing yard work, or other countless daily chores might not seem like a lot to you; but it can make the world of difference for the person you help. On top of that, many elderly folks have difficulty with more physical tasks, you can burn calories while giving them a significant boost to their lives.
So, you抳e followed this advice and volunteering your time, feeling great about helping your community, and are getting out and being active ?but are you really burning lots of extra calories? Probably some, but the benefit of a gym workout is the condensed high intensity exercise. In order to maximize volunteering you want to maximize the calorie burn; and the best way to do that is with a protein supplement. Taking a whey protein supplement helps promote the growth and development of toned, lean muscles while running around or walking a dog. These lean muscles require more calories each day to sustain themselves, and will help keep you trim while doing less condensed exercise. Whey protein is a great way to boost daily activity.
Taking whey protein and volunteering in active ways can be a great double whammy; you take care of your community while taking care of your waistline.
