Many people who are over-weight will put themselves through hundreds of diets in their lifetime. We are bombarded on a daily basis with the latest diet craze - whether it is meal replacement shakes or a diet consisting of only cabbage soup - and each one is "100% guaranteed" to work and to work quickly. Losing weight quickly appeals to a great number of people and the diet industry knows this. Hundred of millions of dollars are spent every year on these fad products alone. But do any of these diets ever work long term?
The basic premise of a diet involves restriction of daily food intake along with a complete ban on foods high in sugars, fats or carbs. Not only is this a shock to your body but this also is very trying mentally, as more often than not most dieters will constantly think about all the foods that are forbidden.
And who can blame them? A diet is supposed to help you lose weight, but a diet is focused so completely on food - how much to eat when to eat it and what to eat that it should is no surprise that almost 96% of diets fail.
Some people may lose weight at first but most people will give up on the diet and all that lost weight, sometimes even more, will be piled back on. The emotional stress caused by being on a diet and then putting back on the weight can be enough to trigger unhappiness and depression causing in some cases a downward spiral of binge eating.
Its time to face the truth that the diet industry does not want you to know - Losing weight is not about starving yourself on the latest diet nor is it about a constant struggle of your willpower - it is about harnessing the power of your mind and subconscious to effectively and successfully lose weight and keep it off!
Imagine if you could take control of your mind so that you simply did not want to eat that chocolate bar or slice of pizza and, you didn't have to use a great deal of willpower to resist!
You can do this. Your mind is a very powerful tool and you really can be in complete control of your thoughts and desires. Taking complete control over your mind is not an easy process and requires time and dedication to making it work. However it really can be done.
Here are some simple principals you can follow to literally think yourself thin.
- Getting Rid of Bad Habits - Bad food habits are the same as any other habit and will have been built up over time. This doesn't mean they can't be changed. Bad food habits include anything from reaching for a bar of chocolate when you've had a bad day to eating an extra biscuit with your morning coffee.
You may think that getting rid of these habits may cause you distress, but it is important to realise that this is simply down to you having an incorrect understanding of your relationship with food. By eliminating these bad habits from your life you will in fact start to regain control and will find yourself happier.
- Take the Attention Away from Bad Habits - If your bad habits revolve around food, you are not likely to lose weight if you are focused on foods. This is why so many diets fail as the main focal point of a diet is which foods to eat and which to avoid. By changing your focus away from what foods you are not eating and concentrating on the good you are doing your body, you can successfully alter your mind-set away from those bad habits you have picked up.
Try to focus on preparing a delicious and healthy weekly meal plan, introducing some light exercise into your daily schedule and rewarding yourself with treats that will not cause you to lapse back into bad habits. Studies have shown that our desire for certain types of food can change after 5 days of not consuming those particular food items. If you do not eat the foods you know are bad for you and stock up on nutritious tasty foods instead, after five days your body will crave the healthy foods instead of the nasty ones, making choosing healthy options a lot easier for you!
- Reprogramming your Subconscious- Your bad habits - and not just food related ones- have been formed in your subconscious. If you can form a habit then you can also break it. The most effective way to change your subconscious is to speak out loud to it. This may seem silly and you may feel a little strange doing this at first, but this technique really does work.
Many famous motivational speakers recommend this as a way of dealing with any negativity in your subconscious and reprogramming it with the thoughts and desires you are aiming for. Try repeating this mantra to yourself out loud every night before you fall asleep.
"I am thin and everyday I will help my body become the thin person I know I am."
Not only does this help to change your subconscious but research has shown that chanting before we fall asleep can help us have a more peaceful and relaxed night.
You may think that weight loss is out of your control, but by following a few simple techniques and reprogramming your subconscious you really can lose weight and feel fantastic about your new body. Better yet you will have a true understanding of your own body and mind and your relationship with food will be much improved.
