You have probably heard a craze somewhere or another about eating 6 meal a day. It ISN'T a myth. Forget what your parents told you years ago. 3 meals a day will nourish you, and maybe you won't get hungry if they are big meals, but you won't lose weight. That is of course if you're eating salads all day, but that is no way to eat or live. If you haven't heard yet, eating 6 meals a day can include so many wonderful foods, an assortment of things that can boost your energy levels (exponentially!), have you looking better, keep you full, and have you feeling better about yourself like never before.
The purpose of eating 6 meals a day is very simple. Eating every 2 1/2 to 3 hours keeps your metabolism moving all day. When this happens, you body doesn't hold calories, it burns them. Getting in a routine of doing this lets your body know(and will eventually come to expect)that you will have fuel or food coming in regularly at timed intervals. Your body naturally holds these calories, or energy, and stores them for when it may need. This storage buildup shows up as fat deposits all over your body. This is a defense mechanism your body intiates to prevent starvation.
Eating 6 meals a day, I wouldn't consider a diet, but an eating style. You don't necessarily have to always eat "diet" food to make this work. Doing this tells you body not to worry and lets it know that you will be providing enough food throughout the day. As a result your body burns energy you eat and draws out energy reserves (fat stored) to be burned as your metabolism keeps moving. If you have ever heard about any program that advertised losing weight in your sleep, I guarantee it isn't pill. These are 6 meals a day plans. Even when you sleep, your metabolism can keep moving after you have been implementing this "eating style" for some time.
Now don't think you can go hit the dollar menu for breakfast, bbq for a snack, pizza for lunch and chicken alfredo for dinner, it doesn't work that way. But you can have an egg white omelet for breakfast, 1/2 cup of nuts 1/2 cup of fruit for a snack, turkey burger steak, grapefruit later and maybe lean grilled chicken salad for dinner (heavy on the greens). This is a small example. This eating style spans many, many foods. You have to know what to eat
Water is also very important. Tea is fine, but go for the sweet n low, and don't go crazy with it. Water helps along all the processes in this plan, and of course is calorie free. It also happens to be the healthiest and smartest choice. The more water the better. Here's a hint to let you know if you are drinking enough water. When you go to the bath room, look for clear or near clear urine. If it's yellow and foamy it's no good.
