In addition, during the 1900s, when women sought equality, corset wearing became passe and lost its popularity with mainstream society. However, girdles were here to stay.

Recently, girdles, and other shapewear have made a resurgence as many women see the advantages of reshaping their waistlines, as well as bouncing back after childbirth. Today, most cutting edge girdles are made from a single item or mix of nylon, Lycra Spandex or Powernet.
