For most people who are obese, obesity is a long-term condition that requires a lifetime of attention even after formal weight-loss treatment ends. Therefore, health care providers should encourage patients who are obese to commit to permanent changes of healthier eating, regular physical activity, and an improved outlook about food. A very low-calorie diet (VLCD) is a doctor-supervised diet that typically uses commercially prepared formulas to promote rapid weight loss in patients who are obese. A VLCD may allow a patient who is moderately to extremely obese to lose about 3 to 5 pounds per week, for an average total weight loss of 44 pounds over 12 weeks. Such a weight loss can rapidly improve obesity-related medical conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.
That's the idea behind the following foods which because they're also tasty-trick your body into feeling satisfied with far less fat and fewer calories:
1. A lot of attention centers on the fact that avocados are rich in monounsaturated fat, the heart-healthy kind. Yet scientists are now more interested in the active compounds in avocados that might help prevent cancer. One recent study found that those compounds can inhibit the growth of prostate cancer cells in the laboratory. While conducting the study, these researchers found avocados are loaded with a variety of antioxidants, including familiar disease-fighting compounds such as lutein, beta-carotene, and vitamin E.
2. Oranges: The more slowly you eat; the easier it is to recognize your body's satiety signals. And what snack takes longer than peeling and sectioning an orange? Oranges have only 48 calories. (200 ml of orange juice, with all the fiber gone, has about 115).
3. Subway Club Sandwich ?160 calories. The club sandwich includes roast beef, turkey, ham, chopped lettuce, baby spinach, red onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, olives, and carrots. Although the calorie count is low, I don抰 recommend having two of these sandwiches because of the high sodium content. If you do take out, consider adding a carton of soy or almond milk and a piece of fruit to round out the nutritional balance (bring from home or buy at a local grocery store).
4. Eggs contain a variety of substances that appear to promote good health. Choline, a nutrient that is critical to brain function, is one example. Eggs, it seems, are one of the richest food sources of choline. Scientists at the University of North Carolina find adding choline to the diets of pregnant animals improves memory performance in their offspring. It may seem like a leap to apply this finding to people, but researchers are already encouraging pregnant women to eat eggs and other choline-rich foods (such as beef liver) during pregnancy.
5. Santa Fe Salad with Grilled Chicken - 305 calories. Santa Fe Salad includes cherry tomatoes, red onion rings, diced grilled chicken naturals, pepper jack shredded, roasted corn and black bean mix, iceberg/romaine blend, mixed salad greens, cheddar shredded. This is one of the best natural weight loss.
6. Grapes: Instead of munching your way through a packet of biscuits after a hard day, try grapes instead. They're high in sugar, but as long as you don't overdo it, they offer the same soothing hand-to-mouth action with none of the fat. They're especially good chilled besides, a hundred grams of grapes contain only 70 calories.
