Running uses every muscle in the body, increase the heart rate and blood flow, fringing nutrients and oxygen throughout the body. As you run blood is forced down through the legs and pushed back up to the heart. Which in turn is pumped through the heart and back out to the body. The faster you run, the harder your heartbeats and the faster it works, making the heart stronger. Runners especially experienced runners are normally of a healthy weight, which significantly reduces the risk of osteoarthritis. In reality running protects cartilage, it doesn抰 destroy it. Running shields the knee from arthritis because the knee develops a motion groove that loads the cartilage during regular movements such as walking and running. Running increases the heart rate, which in turn increases oxygen and blood flow to the knee and flushes out toxins. Running also strengthens the ligaments and muscles around the joints such as the quadriceps, hamstrings, hip flexors and core abdominals. Strong support structure keeps the knee balanced and in proper alignment. This reduces the risk for injury to the knee.
