No matter what your fitness goals are or what exercise program you are using, a simple wall calendar can be a great tool for reaching your weight loss or fitness goals. It works with weight lifting, walking, home fitness programs, dieting, and local gym workouts. Don't underestimate the motivational power of a calendar.
The calendar can give you a quick visual record of your progress and keep you on track. It can make you feel guilty when you miss your workout, and make you feel proud when you see it fill up with marked completions. The weight scale may be slow to report and can offer varied results throughout the day due to normal fluctuations in weight.
Make sure your workouts are set up in stages. You should already know that performing the same movements over and over again is not the most beneficial way to get results. Changing up your routine keeps your body challenged, averts boredom, and keeps your progress coming.
For each stage in your workout, assign a specific number of days for that stage. Each of your workout stages should be marked on your calendar. If you have a 60 day workout stage, mark it out as day 1 through day 60, and place a small notation of what your workout for each day will be. As you progress through the stage, place a big X on the completed workout day!
Take that a step further and put up a calendar near your workout area, or if you go out to exercise, try placing it near where you might keep your gym bag or running shoes. Keep the calendar where you will get a constant reminder of your progress. It can motivate you, encourage you, and even shame you into getting busy.
Your calendar will help keep you motivated in a couple of ways. First, you will find that any days that you skip and are not marked with an X will bug the heck out of you and you will try harder to get each day's workout completed. Second, it gives you a countdown, or visible progress report that shows you are getting closer each day to completing this stage and it is a good feeling.
Some of the better known home fitness programs offered online or through the early morning infomercials utilize this type of calendar countdown in many of their successful programs. With these programs you get a calendar that counts out a 60 day program or a 90 day program or whatever the case may be, and you get instructions on which workout to complete each day.
If it works for some of the more successful home fitness and weight loss program developers and suppliers in the industry, it will work for you too. A wall calendar can be one of the least expensive weight loss and fitness tools available. Give it a try, and let me know how it works out for you!
Hang in there with your program, whatever it may be, get healthy, and share your success to help motivate others get healthy too!
