This means that whether you are resting or active, muscle is still burning calories. Why do you think that bodybuilders and athletes have very little trouble staying lean and fit? It's because they have a large percentage of muscle mass.
So what's the bottom line? Quite simply, if you want to walk, jog or run for exercise that's great...but you need to also do some strength training to build muscle mass. Without it your weight loss is going to be a complete struggle.
