I have great respect for modern medicine and would never advise anyone to stop current treatments. I also encourage anyone with a serious illness or sudden onset of pain or symptoms to go seek professional medical care.
However I find too many people hold their health care professionals responsible for their quality of life and this contributes to our nation’s health care crisis. By this I mean instead of making lifestyle choices or changes to our lifestyle, we as Americans oftentimes run to the doctor so she/he can give us a pill to “fix” us. When we take the “magical” pill, we then can continue to make poor choices. For example, a person has heartburn; they take a pill to relieve the heartburn instead of taking personal responsibility and avoiding the food which gave them the heartburn in the first place. The pill is only treating the symptoms because that is all it can do; WE have to treat the cause of our problems. From Type 2 Diabetes, depression, cancer, sexual dysfunction to dental disease, all can be linked to diet and/or lifestyle choices.
Each one of us can contribute to solving the health care crisis in America by taking proactive steps in our daily lives. By improving our diets to include more organic fruits and vegetables we can begin to turn the tide on the battle against diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity, etc. Increasing our activity does not have to mean joining a gym, simply by taking the stairs you have increased your activity. Drinking good quality water doesn’t mean spending $2 for a bottle of water; you can buy a good quality water pitcher with a filter and drink good quality water for pennies a gallon.
Best tip of all; learn to listen to your body. By maintaining a healthy body weight you will notice less aches and pains in your body thereby giving you an improved quality of life. Being responsible and proactive with your diet and lifestyle can help to solve our Nation’s health care crisis both now and in the future, because when we feel good and we are healthy we require less medical care.
