Surviving The Holidays Without Gaining Weight

Everybody knows the holidays increase the risk of weight gain. With all the yummy foods and drinks, you can gain as much as seven pounds by the start of the new year. If you are weight conscious, the holidays could pose a major setback. It would be a wise move on your part to plan ahead. There are many tips on how to avoid holiday weight gain, and there are many things you can do without sacrificing your holiday fun.

Weighing yourself regularly can help keep track of changes in your weight. During the holidays, it's not impossible to gain one pound in 1 or 2 days. At least, weigh yourself once a week. Remember to use the same scale every time. If you can, do it at the start of every week. It is recommended that you weigh yourself at the same time. It would be best to do it upon waking up after you pee. Stay active. Physical activity burns calories. It would be tempting to play hooky on your exercise routine. Don't. The holiday season is the worst time to skip your workouts.

One time or another, you'll be tempted to give in to sweets. If you do, allow yourself the indulgence. But keep your portions small. Going overboard at lunch need not be a disaster. Just don't make it an excuse to pig out at dinner as well. If you blew your diet plan all the way, you'll face an even bigger problem by new year. Avoid getting too hungry before going to a party. Doing so leaves you susceptible to eat everything on the buffet table.

Fill up your plate with fruits and vegetables. Then take small servings of your favorites. Avoid getting too close to the buffet table. It's way too easy to go for seconds. Avoid eating mindlessly. Savor your food. If you're having the party at home, avoid keeping leftovers. You'll be tempted to eat them. Instead, give it to guests to bring home. Or you can do a good turn and donate it to a homeless shelter. If you go to a friend's party, volunteer to bring appetizers. Bring raw vegetables and a low calorie dip. That way, you'll be sure to have one safe option.

The holidays won't be complete without food and drinks. That's just how it is. Devising strategies to minimize weight gain need not take the fun out of it. Not having the threat of weight gain hanging over you can make you enjoy it even more.
