When it comes to weight loss, you must understand the role of hormones. These chemical messengers are responsible for triggering or regulating bodily functions. When they are imbalanced, you may not lose weight no matter how hard you try.
Hormones can go out of balance for many reasons. Many factors such as poor nutrition, stress, inactivity, sleep deprivation, unhealthy behaviours (alcohol abuse and smoking) and illness can affect hormone levels.
Almost every hormone has an effect on weight. Endorphins, testosterone, estrogen, thyroxine, epinephrine, cortisol, serotonin, melatonin, insulin, glucagon and growth hormones can affect different bodily functions. These hormones can affect weight loss in many ways (such as utilizing fat for fuel, suppressing appetite, revving metabolism and decreasing body fat).
The researchers at the Monash University have found hormones as a way to trick brains into telling our bodies to burn more fat. They looked at the workings of leptin (an appetite suppressant created by fat cells) and insulin (created in the pancreas in response to rising blood glucose). It was found that hormones act together with the brain to stimulate the burning of body fat and paving way to lose weight and prevent obesity.
Here is how to balance hormone levels and lose weight.
Diet and Nutrition: Our diet and food choices play a big role in every aspect of your health, including hormonal balance. You can trick hormones to lose weight by eating frequent small meals with the proper portions of fats, proteins and carbohydrates.
Keep Stress in Control: Persistently elevated levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, can affect your body’s composition. If you want to lose weight and balance hormone levels, limit stress. Physical activity is an excellent way to fight stress. Socializing, good nutrition and engaging in activity that you enjoy are other ways you can release stress.
Adequate Sleep: When you are sleep deprived, melatonin levels in the blood rise sharply and contribute to changes in body composition. Get adequate sleep to maintain proper melatonin levels.
Physical Activity: You can exercise your way to restore hormonal balance. Also, regular exercise can help balance overall hormone production and help you lose weight easy.
To turn on hormones for weight loss, you have to eat right, exercise regularly, keep stress away and get plenty of sleep. The benefits of right hormone balance go far from inducing weight loss; it also lowers cholesterol levels, reduces blood pressure, improve energy and betters oxygen flow to the heart.
