It’s pretty much impossible to watch television these days and not see Jennifer Hudson’s newest Weight Watchers commercial. The American Idol contestant and Oscar-winning actress is said to have lost now a total of 80 pounds using the program’s Points system. She will appear on the Oprah Winfrey Show today to discuss her success - and likely inspire others – as she talks about her resolve to keep the weight off and stay healthy for her family.
Ms. Hudson has discussed previously the primary reason for her decision to join Weight Watchers. Her son David, born in August of 2009, was her inspiration and “source of strength”, she says. She has gone from a size 16 to a size 6, and is now a inspiration to others as Weight Watchers spokesperson.
In the latest Weight Watchers commercials, Hudson sings a new rendition of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” – which can be downloaded for free when you join Weight Watchers – which she says is “The perfect way to express how I feel right now. I feel like I have a new life….and I can conquer the world.”
Hudson has made the change to the new Points Plus system, introduced late last year by Weight Watchers International. The change reflects the latest in scientific evidence which shows that nutrient-dense foods can help you lose weight without feeling deprived and hungry. Hudson says that the new plan has made her “look that much more amazing and be that much more healthy.”
The Weight Watchers plan follows the latest advice of the Dietary Guidelines, which encourage fruit, vegetable and whole grain intake while minimizing such ingredients as trans fats and added sugars. The PointsPlus program can help dieters implement a healthy lifestyle that over the long term will help take the weight off for good.
“Weight Watchers has long been supportive of and a resource for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and we’re excited to see the Dietary Guidelines come to fruition,” said David Kirchhoff, president and CEO of Weight Watchers International, Inc. “We applaud that they have provided such a solid and common sense framework to address the obesity crisis in this country and give Americans practical advice for healthful eating and behavior change.”
Jennifer Hudson will appear on The Oprah Winfrey Show on Thursday, February 10. For more information about Ms. Hudson’s Weight Watchers success, or to learn more about the Points Plus program, visit www.weightwatchers.com.
