Diet focuses on finding your own fat burning potential

One weight loss expert says he is astounded by the suggestion of taking a dangerous weight loss drug like Qnexa. At the same time, consideration for the drug’s approval by the FDA highlights the need for solutions to the obesity epidemic. Don Ochs, an entrepreneur and developer of the Mobanu weight loss system, takes an individual approach for weight loss that claims to ‘flip your fat burning switch’.

Dieting by cutting calories doesn’t work Ochs claims, because it makes the body burn fat more slowly. The reason is survival. Food wasn’t plentiful for our ancestors, so the body relied of fat storage during times of famine. According to Ochs, that worked well for a while, until food became more widely available.

Eating fewer calories tells the body food is scarce, leading to fat storage. Instead, the diet focuses on cutting our high glycemic foods such as breads, pastas and some grains.

Ochs said in a press release, “When you feel very sleepy after a meal, or when you’re full and yet you still crave food, those are signals that you’ve flipped the switch and turned on your insulin production,” he says. “How many carbohydrates flip that switch is different for every person based on genetics.”

The Mobanu diet starts with understanding your own fat burning potential. It’s 3 weight loss programs, according to the website. There is no calorie counting and no dieting. Mobanu stands for Motivation, Balance and Nutrition.

The first part of the diet is designed to raise your Glycemic Threshold™.

As we age, it’s harder to lose weight because our tolerance to high glycemic index foods decreases, according to Ochs.

The first step in the diet is finding your own threshold. Once you reach your ideal weight, you just continue to eat based on what you’ve discovered about your own weight loss fat burning switch. The way you do that is by learning how to exercise to raise your heart rate in a zone that burns fat, which is 85% of your maximum.

Exercises are high intensity; performed at intervals that might include running outdoors or on a treadmill, jumping rope, stair-stepper or swimming springs or going up stairs quickly.

High intensity interval training (HIT) was explored by researchers at McMaster University. According to Professor Martin Gibala, one of the study’s authors, “Doing 10 one-minute sprints on a standard stationary bike with about one minute of rest in between, three times a week, works as well in improving muscle as many hours of conventional long-term biking less strenuously.”

It’s important to remember that no one diet works for everyone. Exploring options and trying different approaches for weight loss means you might find one that works for you.

Losing weight and keeping it off is only possible by making permanent, sustainable changes in lifestyle. It makes sense that a combination of eating a healthy diet and exercising to keep your heart rate elevated would work to shed unwanted pounds. HIT exercises are gaining popularity as studies evolve.

Ochs claims the Mobanu weight loss system evolved from studies of solid research from the National Institutes of Health and the Mayo Clinic. Included in the program is your own heart rate monitor. Speak with your doctor before beginning any diet or exercise program.
