How much fluid do you drink each day? And, just as importantly, which fluids are you drinking?
It seems like people always make losing weight difficult. The 2 main recommendations given by 'weight loss experts' are always a ridiculously difficult to follow diet or a back-breaking workout routine. Well it needn't be that difficult. There are other things you can do to transform your weight that are much less strenuous, and one of those is increasing your fluid intake and making sure you are drinking the right fluids.
So here are 3 things you MUST know about drinking more to lose weight:
1) What you are drinking is more important than how much you are drinking
I read so much literature that describes all sorts of useless drinks as having water content and goodness for the human body. There are only a few fluid types that really hydrate your body. Plain tap water is ok, but certainly nowhere near the best option. The best fluids to drink are alkaline fluids. Ionised water or some bottled waters are good. Other than this, getting your hands on green drinks and adding them to water raises the alkalinity and brings life to your body. Another option is to squeeze fresh lemon or lime juice into your water. Enjoy.
2) Drink as much as you possibly can
Many people in the health industry have recommendations on how much to drink. Few of them come close to the amount you should be consuming. 5 litres per day is a great start. Now this may sound like a lot, but trust me, you should be consuming this much. I consume 5 litres as an absolute minimum. Sometimes I even have as much as 10 litres if I am exercising heavily. So get drinking more and feel the benefits that come to your waistline.
3) Dehydration effects your entire body and makes every single process less effective
That includes all the process' that help your body to neutralise waste and lose weight. So not giving your body enough fluid will, quite literally, help you stay overweight.
Now, just in case these 3 steps are not good enough to propel your backside into action, here are 10 results you will experience by being dehydrated. Just so you know, if you feel even a little thirsty, you have reached dehydration!
1. Dehydration slows metabolism
2. Dehydration leads to the body storing water, creating a
bloated body and making you look bigger than you are
3. Dehydration leads to a more acidic body, which leads to more
fat storage
4. Lack of water is the number one cause of fatigue
5. Light dehydration (a state in which most people spend all of
their time) creates muddled thinking and inability to focus
and concentrate
6. Serious long-term dehydration is linked to morbid obesity,
cancer and heart disease
7. Water cushions and protects vital organs
8. Water transports nutrients within each cell
9. Water increases oxygen in the blood
10. Water improves cell-to-cell communication by
maintaining normal electrical properties of the cells
There you have it, 3 simple understandings that, if applied, will help you lose weight comfortably. And 10 reasons you should not allow dehydration to get hold of you, ever! As ever, it always comes down to simply taking action. Drink and be merry:)
