If you want to burn that fat off your frame then you need to do the kind of exercises that will rev up your system, that will get your body reaching for sources of energy and get the largest and most powerful muscles involved. You need to amp up your system by doing exercises that are both athletic and functional. None of that resistance machinery. No bicep curls, nothing fancy or specific. Instead, let's engage your whole body in a series of fat burning exercises. Ready? Let's go!
The first is the most powerful and a true classic. People have been doing this exercise since they came down from the trees, and it basically involves picking stuff up from the floor. That's right, the deadlift is the first and most important exercises in this series. Stand with feet shoulder width apart, and then squat, back straight, looking at a point on the floor, and grab the bar with hands shoulder width apart. Lift the bar by squeezing your lats, driving your heels into the floor and pushing your hips forward, lifting the bar till it's in front of your thighs.
Follow this immediately with a deadlift jump. Get rid of the bar, and squat down into the same position as you had for the deadlift, but this time explode up into a jump, using your arms for as much leverage as you can. This is an explosive move, and will build not strength but power, which is excellent for both your health and athletic ability.
From here, go to the bench press. This is the equivalent of the deadlift for your chest. Grab the bar with an outside-shoulder, overhand grip and lower it to your chest before pushing it back up. You should be pinching your shoulder blades beneath you, and hold your breath as you do your reps. As soon as you finish your reps, go straight to the explosive version. Get into a pushup position, and then shove as hard as you can so that you lift up right from the floor. Clap once while in the air, and then fall back into another pushup. These are the equivalent of the deadlift jumps, and will help you build explosive power to great benefit.
The benefit to combining these moves is that they will mix strength training with explosive power development. The more you combine deep strength training with powerful explosive action, the more your system will get revved up, and the more energy you'll consume. The big mistake people make is to think that by doing 30 minutes of low intensity cardio on the treadmill they'll burn up all the calories they need to. However, the truth is that very little is burnt up doing low intensity cardio, unless you do it for hours and hours. If people did more weight lifting, more explosive and strength training exercises, they would burn many more calories, and find themselves reaching their weight loss goals with greater ease.
