You may not believe me if you have been trying hard to lose weight with apparently little or no result. However, healthy weight loss is a simple process. I said simple, but that does not mean it is easy although to some of you who are determined to get results, because of your unwavering determination, then losing weight gradually and healthily could even be easy. It is all in your mind.
The simple fact is that to lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you consume. Simple common sense, isn't it? If that is the case, then why are so many people struggling so hard just to lose a few pounds? This is because to merely lose one pound of fat, you have to burn a total of about 3,500 calories and that is a massive amount of calories.
I know what you are thinking and nope, skipping meals is not a good idea to consume less calories because your metabolism will take a nose dive and your body's fat burning capabilities will be compromised and that is also unhealthy. Furthermore, when you are hungry, your body will go into a famine mode and store your body fat and burn your muscles for energy instead.
So what must you do to shed the pounds off? There are only two things you need to do and they are :-
a) Avoid the foods that will make you fat.
b) Exercise more vigorously if you can.
Again this sounds like simple common sense. However, many overweight people are not doing it or not doing it correctly and this is one of the main reasons why people are not successful in their weight loss quest.
So let's begin with foods that make you fat. Of course it is a good idea to avoid food laden with high caloric saturated fat and trans fat. But you should be doing more than that. We are all consuming plenty of extra calories without knowing it and those extra calories come from sugar.
In other words, the cups of coffee or tea you drink in the morning or in your office contains sugar that gives you much of your empty calories that you are unaware of. What about that snacks you eat? I mean the pastries and confectionaries in the form of cakes, biscuits, and other sweet stuff? Yes, what about the sugar laden soft drinks that you drink everyday?
Do you know that the flour that you eat in the form of white breads, cakes and other confectionaries and pastries are high glycemic carbohydrates which are in effect, sugars? That being said, when you avoid those foods, then you are actually lowering your calorie intake as well as avoiding insulin spikes in your blood caused by the high glycemic carbs and thus you are preventing your body from storing fat.
Let's talk about exercise. Are you guilty of riding a stationary bike or walking on the treadmill while at the same time reading a magazine or a book? Come on, how many calories can that burn? Very insignificant and so, do you expect to lose weight that way? Get real.
Yes, any exercise is better than not exercising at all, however your goal is not merely exercising for the sake of exercising, but to lose body fat! So crank up the intensity of your exercises and make your heart pound harder unless you have a medical reason not to do so.
If you follow the suggestions in this article, you will surely start to lose weight easily, healthily and naturally and see the pounds melt away week after week.
