If you're struggling with weight, then there's a good possibility that you're addicted to "hyper-flavored" foods. Packed with salt, sugar, artificial sweeteners, high-fructose corn syrup, MSG, and other natural and artificial flavorings, most processed foods have no lack of flavor. Manufacturers want you to buy more, and they know you're addicted to salt and sugar, so packing their food with big taste is to their benefit. All that flavoring takes a heavy toll on your waistline though. A very big toll.
And then to top it off, an addiction to these flavors compels you to constantly add these flavor-enhancers to dishes you prepare yourself. It's a never-ending, weight-gaining cycle.
What you're doing
Be honest with yourself. Do you find yourself doing any of the following? You put flavored, commercial dressing on your salad. You feel that your tea isn't tasty enough without artificial sweeteners or sugar. You salt already salty meats. You put sugar on fruit. You mix processed "helper" flavorings into your hamburger and other meats. You drink chemical-filled (toxic) diet sodas and powdered drinks just because you feel you can't do without a flavored beverage. You fill up your coffee with cream and various sweet flavorings. You pour imitation syrup on your pancakes and waffles. You drink flavored, "vitamin" enriched water. You can't eat vegetables without first dipping them into some sort of dressing. And the list goes on and on.
What you need to do
How do you beat this addiction to flavoring and the inevitable weight gain it produces? It's simple, and you don't have to give up good foods to do it. Simply refuse to use processed flavorings (including sugar) and flavor your food instead with only whole and lightly processed natural foods.
How you can do it
Here are some examples. Let's first consider salads, which most people feel are completely naked without dressing. It's time to drop the processed dressing and flavor your salad with real food instead. Prepare a spinach or green leaf salad with avocado, tomato, pomegranate, beets and a light sprinkling of flavorful cheese like goat, feta, or fat-burning Parmesan. Top it off with a splash of extra-virgin olive oil and squeezed lemon and you have an incredibly flavorful dish that's made up of only real, nutritious food; satisfies your hunger; and tastes phenomenal to boot! Better still, many of these natural, whole foods actually help your body burn fat. Just get creative and only use real food to make your taste buds sing. No processed dressings or fatty croutons are ever needed.
You may know that both water and tea are powerful tools to help you in your weight loss. However, you feel they're too bland to drink without flavoring. The solution? Squeeze in fresh citrus fruit like lemons, limes and oranges and you not only add big flavor, but the citrus adds an even greater fat-burning effect. Also, try adding mint leaves for a taste of summer you can enjoy year round.
Want something with which to dip your vegetables? Mix Greek yogurt with spring onions, garlic, and fresh pepper and you've got a healthy, protein-rich dip that's hard to beat. Have a real hankering for chocolate? Leave the sugar out of it and buy antioxidant-rich, 90% cocoa dark chocolate. Dip one or two squares into almond butter for a satisfying treat. Eating oatmeal for breakfast because it's a great weight loss food? Spice it up with fresh (and healthy) cinnamon and a small handful of raisins.
I could go on, but I hope you get my point. Flavor real food only with real food and you give your body a fighting chance to lose weight. You also wean yourself of the addiction to salt, sugar and other "hyper" flavors that are, quite literally, killing you.
