Practically all of us have been on a diet at some point in their lives. Some individuals are professional dieters, constantly trying the next big thing and failing miserably. This is because going on a diet by itself is not going to change your overall views about food and exercise. An a lot of people make a resolution after the new year begin a diet and take off some weight while trying not to have to starve themselves in the process.
Diet programs that require a person to excessively reduce their calorie consumption are nearly always doomed to be unsuccessful. The major drawback in this kind of dieting is just that, you are dieting. When you go back to normal eating once more the tendency is for the weight to return. While on the diet plan significantly limiting calorie consumption will cause your metabolism to slow down and burn off less calories because you’re eating less. Then when you go back to normal eating again the “extra” calories helps to put the weight back.
Weight loss doesn’t need to be such a battle. There are 3 important tips to remember when it comes to losing weight that will prevent you from feeling like you’re depriving yourself of foods that you love.
1. Eating in moderation: You’ve probably heard the term that everything is good in moderation. However, most people tend to forget and don’t live by this rule. It’s either one extreme or the other – all or nothing. They are either eating each meal at a fast food restaurant or they’re surviving on carrot sticks. The key to keeping on your weight loss program is to eat in moderation and not completely restrict yourself or you may end up craving it even more, and then over indulging yourself later on. For example, this means eating that piece of chocolate cake instead of depriving yourself. You’re more likely to overeat the cake later on. Instead A small piece now can just hold off on eating more cake for a few days.
2. Eat breakfast every day: A lot of people underestimate breakfast and don’t understand that it’s the most important meal of the day. Breakfast is the meal that literally “breaks the fast”. It’s what will get your body ready for the day. It revs your metabolism back up so that it becomes more effective and efficient when burning fat during the day.
3. Fill up on nutrient dense foods: One important aspect when going on a diet is to remember that you’ll want to fill up on foods that are nutrient dense and rich in fiber. For example, this simply means that you could eat 100 calories of beans or 100 calories of chocolate. While the chocolate may sound like a great idea, it’s going to move through your system quickly and cause blood sugar spikes which will cause further cravings. Beans on the other hand, will keep you full longer and won’t cause blood sugar spikes.
A diet doesn’t have to be a horrible experience. You simply need to learn to lose weight quickly without starving yourself.
