Your Intestines? Length of Small and Large

The small intestine is the longest part of the digestive system, measuring approximately 20 feet (6 meters) in adults. It is divided into three sections: the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum. The duodenum is the first part of the small intestine and is where most of the digestion and absorption of nutrients occurs. The jejunum is the middle section of the small intestine, and the ileum is the last section.

The large intestine is shorter than the small intestine, measuring approximately 5 feet (1.5 meters) in adults. It is also known as the colon and is divided into four sections: the ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon, and sigmoid colon. The ascending colon is the first part of the large intestine and is located on the right side of the abdomen. The transverse colon is the middle section of the large intestine and crosses the abdomen from right to left. The descending colon is the last part of the large intestine and is located on the left side of the abdomen. The sigmoid colon is the S-shaped section of the large intestine that connects to the rectum.
