Why Stomach Hurt When

There are many possible reasons why someone's stomach might hurt. Some of the most common causes include:

* Gas: Gas is a normal part of digestion, but it can sometimes cause pain if it builds up in the stomach or intestines. This can be caused by eating certain foods, such as beans, cabbage, and broccoli, or by drinking carbonated beverages.

* Constipation: Constipation is another common cause of stomach pain. It occurs when stool becomes hard and dry and is difficult to pass. This can be caused by a lack of fiber in the diet, dehydration, or certain medications.

* Diarrhea: Diarrhea is the opposite of constipation, and it occurs when stool is loose and watery. This can be caused by a variety of factors, such as infection, food poisoning, or certain medications.

* Indigestion: Indigestion is a feeling of discomfort or burning in the upper abdomen. It can be caused by a variety of factors, such as eating too much, eating fatty or spicy foods, or drinking alcohol.

* Acid reflux: Acid reflux is a condition in which stomach acid backs up into the esophagus. This can cause a burning sensation in the chest or throat, as well as stomach pain.

* Ulcers: Ulcers are sores that can develop in the lining of the stomach or intestines. These can be caused by a variety of factors, such as infection with the bacteria Helicobacter pylori, use of certain medications, or alcohol abuse.

* Other medical conditions: Stomach pain can also be a symptom of other medical conditions, such as appendicitis, diverticulitis, or Crohn's disease.

If you are experiencing stomach pain, it is important to see a doctor to determine the cause and receive appropriate treatment.
